Survivor Wines triumphs at Trophy Wine Show and Decanter

Achievements place Survivor among revered competitions’ top champions.

Survivor Wines has been dealt a double whammy having been singled out back-to-back in past weeks as a champion producer at two highly esteemed championships, South Africa’s Trophy Wine Show and the Decanter World Wine Awards in London.

At the Trophy Wine Show, announced in Stellenbosch, Survivor was awarded no less than four titles this year including a 97-point Gold.

Survivor’s Gold-winning wine, the Survivor Chenin Blanc 2024 was placed 5th on the competition’s list of Top 10 white wines for the year and 6th on the Top 10 list of best value white wines.

At Decanter, Gold was presented to the Survivor Reserve Chenin Blanc 2022 (95 points) and Reserve Pinotage 2022 (96 points).

The achievements once again shine a light on the excellence that permeates this celebrated Cape winery.

While Decanter puts an international spotlight on the local winery, The Trophy Wine Show is South Africa’s premier wine competition, identifying the very best Cape wines, recognising the achievements of the country’s winemakers, and honouring excellence in the wine industry.

“The recognition we’ve received at both of these premier events reaffirms not only the exceptional quality of our wines but also the outstanding value we strive to deliver,” says Survivor Wines cellarmaster Pierre Wahl. “Coupled with the consistent accolades we’ve earned over the years, it’s a powerful endorsement of the star quality we aim for across all varieties, vintages, and price points.”

Among numerous local and international examples, the release of the latest Platter’s South African wine guide, the country’s longest-running and trusted source of information on local wine, included five stars for Survivor’s Reserve Pinotage 2022 as well as a monumental seven wines that received 4.5-star ratings.

The Decanter World Wine Awards and Trophy Wine Show further expand this reputation for excellence.

According to Trophy Wine Show founder Michael Fridjhon, South Africa’s most renowned wine authority, “savvy wine consumers have discovered that the laureates of the Trophy Wine Show represent extraordinary drinking value. This is because in the blind tasting environment of the competition, wines compete solely on quality… The country’s wine buyers know that a medal – any medal – awarded by the Trophy Wine Show judges is a guarantee of wine quality. To win one of the 40 Golds awarded to current release wines is akin to hitting the jackpot.”

In producing its wines, the Survivor team sources the finest grapes from several of the country’s very best terroirs – Darling, Elgin, Hemel-en-Aarde, Swartland and Tradouw. They are available across three collections. The Terroir range focuses on showcasing varieties in the best areas and includes the Survivor Cap Classique. The Reserve range highlights distinguished cultivars from the Swartland, Chenin Blanc and Pinotage. The Cellar Master Series zones in on the epitome of excellence, casting the most expressive terroirs in the limelight.

Survivor Wines are available at leading retailers and restaurants across the country. They may also be purchased via the online shop, www.survivorwines.com, which also has more information on the winery.
