From March 1st to April 1st, mark your calendars for the sixth edition of Spier Light Art, a nocturnal escapade promising something for everyone, from the little ones to senior citizens, and everyone in between. This enchanting event, held at the manicured gardens of Spier Wine Estate near Stellenbosch, South Africa, is a highly anticipated annual affair curated by Vaughn Sadie and Jay Pather.
From 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, visitors can immerse themselves in a world of experimental light installations, dynamic soundscapes, and captivating video artworks, all thoughtfully crafted by talented local and international artists. The curated approach to placing artworks intentionally throughout the farm adds depth to the experience, inviting visitors to engage with the art in a meaningful way.
But Spier Light Art is more than just an art exhibition; it’s a cultural celebration. It’s a free-for-all extravaganza, welcoming all without the need for reservations. Simply gather your crew, wait for the sun to bid adieu, and let the luminous wonders guide your way.
And let’s not forget the culinary delights awaiting attendees. Alongside the mesmerizing art displays, guests can indulge in a feast for the senses with delicious food and wine offerings. Whether you’re planning a family outing or a night out with friends, Spier Light Art promises to tantalize taste buds and ignite imaginations.
For those looking to enhance their experience, there are additional options available. Guests can book a sunset picnic, get creative with a built-your-own picnic at The Picnickery, or indulge in smoky delights at Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery (advance reservations recommended). And for those craving bubbles with their braai, the Bubbles & Braai bar awaits!
Of course, no art-filled evening would be complete without a taste of fine wine. Visitors can enjoy Spier Wine Tasting sessions on the deck, offered daily until 6:00 PM, with extended hours on Thursdays to Saturdays (last tasting begins an hour before closing).
At Spier, art is celebrated as a powerful force for cultural expression and community connection.
