MORE THAN JUST A WINE ESTATE, CAPE POINT VINEYARDS OFFERS THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS – BUSH, BEACH, WINE, CUISINE, AND RELAXATION WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS…
On a bright summer day, the Rove SA team hit the road for a scenic sojourn to Cape Point Vineyards in the idyllic coastal village of Noordhoek.
The first thing visitors will notice when arriving at Cape Point Vineyards is that the view is spectacular. Manicured lawns look out towards the huge koi pond, the vineyards to the right, rocky hills with flora to the left and the ocean straight ahead.
A refreshed look
The recent renovation at Cape Point Vineyards highlights earthy tones that blend in seamlessly with the natural surrounds artlessly creating a chic yet free-flowing aesthetic. The new look is modern yet classic.
There are indoor and outdoor seating areas, but even if you choose to sit indoors, large sliding doors open out onto a terrace giving guests scenic views and the feeling of being outdoors.
The wine-and-dine experience
After a brief walkabout – one simply must take photos at the massive koi pond – we head indoors to partake in an oyster and wine pairing. Guests also have the option to do a sushi and wine pairing.
The wines have a fresh crispness to them – testament to the nearby coastal environment that pairs exceptionally well with the oysters.
Now I will confess, I like oysters but am not mad about them. However, this experience changed my mind. The apple, ponzu, pickled ginger and miso mayo oyster was simply superb. Delicate flavours burst through, creating a happy dance on the palate.
Having done the tasting, I was excited to try out the food menu. The chef did not disappoint – the starters, mains and dessert were all artfully presented. When questioned about the aesthetic, the chef noted that people “eat with their eyes first”.
From a taste perspective, flavours are complementary, balanced and filling. The restaurant also caters for different dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free). Good to note is that the restaurant has a decent cocktail menu, which is perfect for sundowners.
A sense of community
While the wine estate has undergone massive changes aesthetically, it still retains that welcoming feel. As the Marketing Manager Isliedh Herbert explains: “Many of us who work here have grown up together. It is probably the bond that we have that enables this atmosphere we have created here, which promotes togetherness.”
As a family-owned estate, Cape Point Vineyards has created an environment that caters to everyone – you can visit solo, with friends or family. For parents, it is a great spot as there are activities to keep kids entertained, such as a designated play area and freshly made ice-cream that everyone loves.
A great way to spend a Thursday afternoon is to visit the Cape Point Vineyards Food Market from 16:30 to 20:30. The vibe is chilled and colourful. People bring blankets and picnic while enjoying the view, kids run around, and of course there are loads of gastronomic delights on offer at the market to suit every palate. It’s not just a food market – locals in the area showcase custom-made jewellery, clothing, home décor, soaps and oils and much more, so it’s also a great opportunity to shop for something novel.
A relaxed escape
Being at Cape Point Vineyards brought forth a sense of nostalgia – memories rushed forward of younger days when I used to regularly frequent spots on this side of the world. Years have passed but the area still retains its essence of beauty, relaxation, and a sense of community where people are warm and welcoming without being obtrusive. Cape Point Vineyards echoes these sentiments – it’s definitely a top spot for people who enjoy nature, wine and great company.
