BlackBrick Hotels has expanded its footprint with the opening of BlackBrick Gardens, its new flagship property in Cape Town. The hotel opened on 20 November 2025 and marks a significant step in the group’s global growth.
The 93-apartment hotel, located on Roodehek Street, transforms a former mid-century hat factory into a connected, contemporary living space.
A new chapter for BlackBrick
Set beneath Lion’s Head and Table Mountain, BlackBrick Gardens reflects the next phase of the brand’s culture-driven apartment hotels. It offers a mix of short- and long-term stays designed for modern travellers, contract professionals and digital workers.
The building’s heritage exterior remains intact. Its interior has been reshaped around a dramatic excavated atrium that brings daylight into the heart of the structure. Each apartment includes two balconies, a kitchenette, a bedroom, a bathroom and a compact lounge.

A hotel built for living, working and connecting
BlackBrick Gardens includes six food and beverage concepts, co-working and meeting areas, a Pilates studio, a rooftop pool and terrace, and the BB+ Membership platform. BB+ gives locals and guests access to talks, walks, art, design and wellness sessions.
The property also introduces Max’s Mezcal Bar, Lucy’s Juice Bar, a Minimalist Wine tasting lane and a partnership with Rosetta Roastery for specialty coffee.
“Every space has intention,” says BlackBrick co-founder Jonathan Liebmann. “Lucy’s and Max’s aren’t random names. They link to a personal narrative that runs through the building. Every venue has purpose and character.”
Food at the centre of the experience
Food shapes the identity of BlackBrick Gardens. F&B partner Diego Silva leads two dining concepts:
• atrás – a refined, ingredient-focused restaurant in reception
• arriba – a rooftop terrace and poolside space centred on shared plates and social dining

Designed for human connection
General Manager Logan Naidoo says the goal was to create a place that feels human and intuitive. “Design, service and tech sit in the background. People should feel free to connect, whether they stay one night or a month.”
A prototype for global expansion
For Liebmann, the project signals BlackBrick’s global direction. “Gardens is our prototype. We build spaces where people can stay, work and create. Hotels that feel like home but still spark chance encounters.”
He highlights the importance of upliftment. Roodehek Street is becoming a hub for local partnerships, and the group aims to support that growth. “Cape Town is the right city to set this blueprint.”
BlackBrick now operates sites in Johannesburg and Cape Town, with Umhlanga next. Expansion to the USA is underway.
