One night at the capital

by Richard van Staden

Two of us from the Rove team checked into The Capital Hotel Zimbali for a quick work visit, curious to see how the resort performs for travellers who need comfort, convenience and a dose of coastal air between deadlines. With only one night on the property, we made the most of the estate’s pools, trails and easy access layout, and the experience gave us a clear sense of how the hotel fits into the North Coast mix.

Most of our day unfolded around the main pool, which is very much the heart of the resort. Families drifted in and out, children claimed the slide within minutes of arrival, and the space carried a cheerful, relaxed holiday energy. Even with the action, the pool is large enough to do proper lengths. One of us spent the morning swimming laps while the other settled in with notes and a cold drink, and it never felt crowded or chaotic. For a resort that caters to families, the balance is impressive.

When we needed a bit of quiet to regroup between tasks, the hotel’s adults-only pool near the spa became our retreat. It is tucked away, noticeably calmer and ideal for anyone wanting silence, sun and space to breathe. From a work perspective, it was a good place to reset before the next round of content and photography.

Maintenance in the guest areas is solid. The lawns, pathways and pool decks are all well kept, and the parts of the resort that carry the most foot traffic seem to be looked after with intention. It adds to the sense of ease that makes Zimbali such a popular choice for short stays.

One of Zimbali’s strongest assets is the ability to stay active without needing to leave the estate. We mapped out a route and headed out for a five kilometre run that followed the curve of the golf course. It is a beautiful stretch for a morning workout. Safe, scenic and free of traffic interruptions, with forest edges and coastal air that make the kilometres slip by quickly. For travellers who value movement, the estate layout is a genuine bonus.

From a work travel point of view, The Capital Hotel Zimbali is also highly practical. The rooms are comfortable, the Wi-Fi held up without issue, and the hotel is only fifteen minutes from King Shaka International Airport. It allowed us to land, check in, swim, run, gather content, rest and still keep to our schedule.

For a one night assignment or a quick break with enough comfort to double as a workspace, The Capital Hotel Zimbali is a dependable, easygoing and enjoyable choice.
