South Africa’s best kept secret

by Media Xpose

Fynbos Golf & Country Estate is set in the rural landscape of the Eastern Cape, on the coast midway between Jeffreys and Plettenberg Bay. Perched against the backdrop of the Tsitsikamma mountains, it overlooks spectacular rocky inlets, coves, and sea-side cliffs. It is one of the most scenic golf courses in South Africa and provides the perfect backdrop for a relaxing holiday or special event.

At Fynbos visitors and guests can bask in the fresh air, beautiful natural surroundings and incredible fauna and flora. Hundreds of bird species flourish in the area and they have a happy family of Springbuck and a Blesbuck that roam the grounds. Pods of dolphins and whales often grace the beautiful coastline and their sightings have been known to hold up the game of golf as players stop to first capture these spectacular occurrences on camera. The King Protea, probably the most famous specie of fynbos, is indigenous to the area and is South Africa’s national flower. The exquisite white cynaroides/king protea (aka Regina) is a unique specie of fynbos which grows on the nearby Regyne Protea Farm.

Fynbos Golf & Country Estate has a variety of accommodation options available. The clubhouse has eight beautiful rooms for those that want to be close to the action and part of the hustle and bustle of the club. Nestled on the edge of the golf course are twelve beautiful self-catering units. Each unit has two rooms with an open plan kitchen and can comfortably accommodate four guests. There are also two self-catering houses available, one located on the main beach in Eersterivierstrand that can accommodate ten guests and one located in the beautiful Skuitbaai eco-estate that can accommodate six guests.

Fynbos has a beautiful chapel and banquet hall that can seat up to 100 guests. Smaller groups can arrange to make use of their cozy restaurant, the outdoor deck or the boma, all of which offer breathtaking views to accompany the mouthwatering feast prepared by their experienced catering team.

Players are requested to visit the pro-shop before teeing off on the beautiful 9 hole, 18 tee course. Mark Muller, the well-renowned golf course architect, has transformed the course into a spectacular layout that has a links feel to it. John Bland and Mark Wiltshire have combined their vast golfing knowledge to ensure that the playability of the course is fair and enjoyable to all golfers, yet testing when nature’s elements prevail.

Fynbos hosts several golf events throughout the year and recently added the Fynbos Ladies Open (taking place in October) to their list of annual golf tournaments. They have two multi-day golf tournaments in March (Fynbos Classic) and September (Fynbos Better Ball) during which impressive prizes such as vehicles and diamonds can be won. They also offer tailor made play and stay packages for golf groups.
