Set against the slopes of Paarl Mountain, Fairview continues to stand out as one of the Cape Winelands’ most loved destinations. This summer, the estate invites families to enjoy award-winning wines, highly acclaimed artisanal cheese, and a relaxed farm atmosphere filled with heritage, flavour, and fun.
From the iconic Goat Tower and its playful residents to sweeping views, landscaped gardens, and warm Fairview hospitality, every visit feels generous and memorable.
A Third-Generation Family Legacy
Fairview is a third-generation, family-owned estate acquired in 1937 by Lithuanian immigrant Charles Back. Under the leadership of his grandson, Charles Back, the farm has grown from a modest family operation into an internationally recognised wine, cheese, and agri-tourism destination.
Despite its global reach, Fairview remains an authentic working farm. A collection of complementary micro-businesses operates side by side, united by a focus on artisanal craftsmanship, sustainability, and local production. From fine wines and award-winning cheeses to free-range meats, baked goods, and plant-based innovations, the estate reflects an entrepreneurial vision rooted in quality and care.
The Iconic Goat Tower Experience
Fairview’s charm is immediate. Visitors are welcomed by the estate’s famous Goat Tower, a walled landmark that has housed Fairview’s beloved goats since 1981. The tower remains a highlight for children and adults alike, offering a playful introduction to the farm’s character and sense of tradition.

Wine Tastings and the Fairview Tasting Room
A walk through the landscaped gardens, past the koi pond, leads to Fairview’s tasting room. Four distinctive barrel-shaped tasting stations create a relaxed, social setting where knowledgeable wine ambassadors guide guests through curated wine-and-cheese pairings.
For those seeking a deeper dive, the Beryl Back Master Tasting Room offers seated, tutored tastings in an intimate, educational setting. Named after Charles Back’s late mother, the experience features Fairview’s finest wines paired with artisanal cheeses, freshly baked bread, and farm-made olive oil.
Families are well catered for, with a Kids Tasting designed for younger visitors. This includes milder cheeses, a sweet treat, and a glass of EGA or lemonade, ensuring everyone feels included.
A Diverse and Award-Winning Wine Portfolio
Fairview’s portfolio includes around 50 wines, spanning robust reds, elegant whites, rosé, dessert wines, Cap Classique, and experimental releases. Well-known ranges include Goats do Roam and Fairview Classic, alongside Bloemcool, Regional Revival wines inspired by Old World styles, Single Vineyard selections, Certified Heritage Vineyard wines, and flagship bottlings named in honour of Charles Back’s parents.
Sourced from vineyards in Darling, Swartland, Paarl, and Piekenierskloof, the wines showcase diverse Cape terroirs in one place. Shiraz remains Fairview’s signature, with three single-vineyard expressions and Shiraz-led blends across multiple ranges, reinforcing the estate’s standing as a leading Shiraz producer in the Cape Winelands.
The 2006 vintage marked a standout year for Fairview, highlighted in the Platter’s 2026 South African Wine Guide with a Wine of the Year title, six 5-Star ratings, and ten 4.5-Star ratings. Under Cellarmaster Anthony de Jager, the estate continues to deliver consistent quality across accessible favourites and age-worthy wines.

Farm-to-Fork Dining and Retail
Beyond tastings, Fairview offers farm-to-fork dining at the Goatshed, a well-loved Farm Deli and Bakery, and a selection of locally made products that reflect the estate’s sustainable ethos. Spacious gardens and relaxed outdoor areas make it easy to linger, explore, and enjoy time together.
