Still Standing? Then You’re Ready: The RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town Wants You

by Kim Kay
The RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town is calling. Discover race distances, elevation, entry details and what makes this trail running event one of the toughest in the world.

Cape Town is stretching, the mountain is calling – and the trail is waiting. There are still a few golden tickets left. The RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town 100-miler and 100 km races haven’t sold out yet, which means you still have a chance. If your heart rate hasn’t spiked just reading that, keep going.

This isn’t your average Sunday run. It’s a full-scale adventure through the heart of Table Mountain National Park – 160 km or 100 km of grit, beauty, and pure self-discovery. It’s a journey that takes you from city streets to mist-covered ridges, down to the ocean and back up again, until you forget where your legs end and your willpower begins.

The RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town (UTCT) is South Africa’s crown jewel of trail running. The 100-miler includes more than 7 500 metres of climbing and allows up to 45 hours of racing. The 100 km event is no less intense, with around 5 000 metres of ascent – a “shorter” option only by comparison. These are not strolls through the fynbos. They are suffer-fests. They are soul-stirrers. They are joyrides for those who run toward challenge, not away from it.

But here’s the truth: you don’t need to be elite to enter. You only need to be brave. Every year, runners from every walk of life take on this course – mothers, engineers, teachers, dreamers – people who show up not for fame, but for the mountain.

Dawn rising over the Twelve Apostles, your headlamp dimming as the first light hits the sea. A stranger calls your name at Constantia Nek. By the time you descend back into the city, everything hurts – except your spirit. That’s on fire.

The UTCT is more than a race. It’s a movement. A community stitched together by shared madness and mutual respect – elite runners high-fiving first-timers, volunteers cheering through the night, friends waiting with flasks of coffee at 3 am. It’s South African to the core: tough, generous, and full of heart.

So if you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is it.

Entries are still open through Quicket – for now. Claim your spot. Test your limits on one of the world’s most iconic courses, from the ridges of Table Mountain to the edge of the Atlantic.

The mountain is ready. The only question is… are you?
