InterContinental Table Bay reopens 15 December with a full redesign, new dining by Jan Hendrik, and luxury facilities at the V&A Waterfront.

One of Cape Town’s most recognisable waterfront hotels is entering a new era. The InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town will reopen for a soft launch on 15 December 2025, becoming IHG’s first luxury InterContinental property in the Mother City.

The hotel, first opened in 1997 under the guidance of former President Nelson Mandela, closed in February 2025 for a complete refurbishment. Much of the interior was demolished and redesigned to introduce a modern aesthetic that reflects the hotel’s position where sea and mountain meet.

A Design Inspired by the Waterfront

The refreshed interior draws inspiration from the V&A Waterfront’s natural beauty. Guest rooms and suites have been reimagined to maximise iconic views while offering a sense of considered calm.

A key new feature is the Club InterContinental Private Lounge on the sixth floor. The space offers panoramic views of the harbour and Table Mountain, with the possibility of spotting whales passing near the shoreline.

Elevated Culinary Experiences

Food lovers have much to look forward to. The hotel will introduce several new dining concepts, ranging from relaxed poolside meals to inventive seasonal small and sharing plates.

The highlight is Le Bistro de JAN. Here, Michelin-star chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen brings his celebrated French bistro style, infused with South African character and ingredients.

Service and Facilities Designed for Luxury

The reopening also marks a renewed focus on personalised hospitality. Guests will have access to dedicated concierge services, the family-focused Planet Trekkers programme, a fully equipped gym, and a bespoke spa. The hotel’s prime location ensures seamless access to the attractions at the V&A Waterfront.

General Manager Joanne Selby says the transformation honours what matters most. “It may be a shiny new jewel, but key elements were preserved. The most precious of these is our team. All staff have been retained, and we look forward to delivering elevated hospitality with the familiar faces our guests know.”

Connected to a Global Network

The new chapter also integrates guests into IHG’s worldwide ecosystem through IHG One Rewards, which links more than 130 million members to over 6 000 hotels and resorts.

The soft opening is on 15 December, with the grand opening scheduled for 2026. For locals and international travellers, the relaunch signals an exciting moment for Cape Town’s luxury hotel landscape.
